Here are some additional tips that may help to reduce the anxiety attached
to public speaking:
- Exercise is an antidote to stress. Arrive early and take a brisk walk
for at least five minutes. If it is raining or snowing outside, you
can still do some body stretches.
- Abstain from caffeine and alcohol before you speak. These substances
will only give you more jitters. Wear your favorite outfit and use attractive
colors. Ladies, go simple on the jewelry. Avoid too much black and white.
- Give yourself permission to make mistakes. You do not have to be perfect.
After all, no one else is either.
- Remember, some nervousness is a good thing. It shows a desire to perform
well, so you don’t want to get rid of all the butterflies in your
stomach.
- Most of all – smile, enjoy yourself, and have fun. After all,
aren’t you glad to be there? The sign of a well-adjusted person
is one who doesn’t take him or herself too seriously.
