Reduce the Fear of Your Audience

The more important the audience or the occasion, the greater your nervousness can be. No one wants to look like a fool in front of the boss, their peers, or even their friends and relatives. One trick to overcoming these fears is to visualize the audience as people who are not so important. One old trick is to picture them all naked or in their underwear. Any ridiculous image will make them seem less important. The problem with that method is that it seems rather negative in many cases. When you look down at your audience this can be reflected in your speech without you realizing it. Many times it is better to use a more positive approach.

Keep in mind that, in most cases, the audience is on your side. They want to hear what you have to say or chances are that they wouldn’t even be there to begin with, and they want to see you do well. Before giving your presentation, think of the audience as caring, friendly people who want to hear you speak. The positive image should relax you and put you into a good frame of mind. The audience will also read your body language and respond accordingly.
